What Will We Be Doing in Kenya?

As many of you know, we are preparing to travel to the Meru region of central Kenya with our mission team and I wanted to share specifically what Charlotte and I will be doing when we arrive.

A large portion of our time will be spent helping construct 12 Kizazi homes for families in need. “Kizazi” means generations in Swahili which is a fitting name, as many of the recipients are grandmothers or single parents raising children. These homes are designed to create lasting change by providing safety, stability, and dignity for families who currently live in very fragile conditions.

Charlotte and I will both be involved in the building process by constructing walls and roofs on foundations that will already be in place when we arrive. This will not look like construction in America. There will be no power tools. Cuts will be made by hand, and hammers will replace nail guns. It will be physically demanding, but we are grateful for the opportunity to serve in such a tangible way.

In addition to building homes, we will help lead and support several ministry efforts.

We will participate in a Christian mentorship seminar, encouraging and equipping local students at the Katheri Girls School. We will assist in teaching basic IT skills to students, helping provide tools that can expand future opportunities. We will also help distribute feminine hygiene products to the girls as a practical way to remove barriers that often prevent them from attending school consistently.

One of the things we are especially excited about is helping host a Vacation Bible School (VBS) program for nearby elementary schools. Charlotte is particularly looking forward to connecting with the younger children through games, songs, and Bible lessons.

For us, this trip is about more than projects. It is about relationships. It is about listening, learning, serving, and walking alongside our brothers and sisters in Christ. It is about showing up with willing hands and open hearts.

We know this experience will stretch us. We also know it will shape us in ways we cannot yet see. We are grateful for the opportunity to serve together — as a mother and daughter — and we are thankful for each of you who are praying for us as we prepare!
